Contrary to general opinion, models can’t eat chocolate all day and stay slim and beautiful. A modelling career requires that you keep your figure, skin, hair and teeth in perfect condition, and that’s hard work.
Healthy eating is a big part of looking after yourself and maintaining your figure and the condition of your body. It’s particularly important for you as a model, because you will be expected to be flawless for every job you get, and if you don’t look after yourself you will find that the work dries up.
If you don’t eat healthily already, then you need to start now. Eating the right amount of fresh fruit and vegetables, amongst other things, has a positive effect on your skin and hair, gives you more energy and boosts your immune levels, which is important because models need to be available to work all the time.
Five A Day
If you haven’t heard about this, where have you been? Experts recommend that you eat at least five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables every day. There are guidelines available on what defines a portion, but essentially, eat as much as you can. There are plenty of opportunities to increase your fruit and veg intake – eat them as snacks as well as with main meals – and learn how to prepare and cook them so that you retain as much of the nutrients and vitamins as possible. Raw fruit and vegetables are better for you than cooked. Canned and frozen fruit and vegetables count.
Balanced Diet
Having a balanced diet is important. Most foods contain things that are good for you and if you focus on eating the better foods, and reducing your portion size, you’ll find that you reap the health benefits. Fish and white meat is better for you than red meat, and plenty of fibre in your diet is also encouraged. Learn to eat balanced meals and snack on fruit instead of chocolate, and your moods will improve, along with the visible physical benefits.

There are thousands of articles, diet plans, books and DVDs devoted to teaching you how to live a healthy lifestyle. The most important thing is not to jump from one set of advice to the next. Use your common sense: eat more healthily, do more exercise and you will find that you not only maintain your looks and your figure, but you will have more energy and vitality, and that will come across in your modelling work.
