Modelling: Skin care tips for men

Skin care doesn’t come naturally to many men, but if you are thinking of becoming a male model then you need to know more about your skin than just how to shave properly.

Male skin care has its own set of problems. Using the wrong shaving method can result in broken, red or rash-covered skin, which is almost impossible to cover up for a photo shoot. Looking after your skin is crucial to your career and there are a number of things you can do to help.

Shaving

It’s not unusual to find men who hate shaving. It can often leave your face feeling sore, and it can take some time for the skin irritation to pass. For the best results, use an aloe-based shaving gel or cream and massage well into your skin before you shave. Always shave in the direction of the hair growth, only going against the grain where you have to. Replace your razor blades regularly; blunt blades will cause real problems for your skin. Once you have finished shaving, make sure you rub in plenty of moisturiser to help your skin retain its natural moisture. Avoid alcohol-based fragrances immediately after shaving, as they can really irritate your skin.

General Skin Care

Here, your skin care routine is very similar to a woman’s routine. Use cleanser rather than soap, toner to freshen your face and moisturiser to keep the skin soft. Use a scrub or exfoliate once a week to remove dead skin and then moisturise to protect the skin. Use moisturisers that include sun screen so that your face, hands, neck and any other areas that are exposed to the sun are protected every day – not just when it’s sunny.

It may be a bit daunting, but consider visiting a beauty salon and getting some advice on caring for your skin. Many salons cater for men and you can get facial treatments and advice from experts. This should help you to formulate your own daily skin care routine, which is comfortable and easy to follow.

Check Requirements

Before you get up early and shave for your next photo shoot, check with the photographer whether you need to be clean-shaven. For some modelling shoots, photographers want more stubble, and if you turn up clean-shaven, you spoil the whole look. Not only does it give a professional impression if you call to check, it also means that you might be able to avoid one of the most disliked parts of male skin care!

  2. Other problems men experience is oily skin also caused from testosterone production. You need products that will help to keep the oil secretion to a normal level. Men's skin tend to be thicker than women making it necessary to find men skin care products that have the ability to penetrate through the many layers of the skin. When to Change Your Skincare Product?
